Has anyone heard Metallica's latest album ... or saw the movie ? I just came back from the cinema / movie Metallica : Some kind of Monster.... at first I wasn't quite sure whether I need this kind of psycho insight ... but then couple of things got into a perspective (incl. some detailes on Metallicas recent a past history of which I either wasnt aware or did not bother about or just happily forgot ...). So anywa, at the end I quite liked the film and I am actually happy to see Metallica here in Prague soon ... July 1 .... As a matter of fact their new bass seems to fit nicely into the band and the sound ... and btw, though I didnt listen to St Anger album properly yet, Some Kind of Monster song played at the closure of the film felt more than FINE .... I quite enjoyed the riff set combined with typical Metallica vocal bit. ;D Btw, there were couple of smaller details I found interesting in the movie, such as Lars' father .... pretty nice chap ... that is perhaps the way one would like to age, LOL ... not that I necessarily would like to look like him .... ;D Also, it was nice of them to include some Apocalyptica / at the picture gallery bit ... though they may have put some more. I also forgot about their Napster role, to be frank. Anyway, to go and see the movie was not actually waste of time. Note on the psycho thing ... well, I could be spared of that part, but at the end, while watching their crap, I received some feedback on my own crap, so at the end even that bit was sort of useful. Btw 1 Has anyone seen Apocalyptica live .... I know they play primarily regions like Germany, northern Europe ... of course, not that much UK, though there were some gigs last year / London I tkhink ... Anyway, I must admit that their 3 live concerts I went to made me listen to Metallica more closely .... Their albums CULT and INQUISITION SYMPHONY are my fave so far ... and their live performance does actually kick ass .... Btw 2 ...What do you think about their new bass man Robert Trujillo ?

Jana,
Robert Trujillo bass playing is very unique! He gets my thumbs up in any band!
It's a shame that they (namely, Lars and Hetfield) have lost the plot after Cliff Burton died!!!

True ... When listening to St. Anger note by note (which I actually did ;D ) one comes to a conclusion that it is rather schizoid album / music.
I wonder what their Prague concert will be like. The whole album sounds like an intense jam session that may not be quite replayable ... ;D

Hmmm... I myself did not like the St. Anger album. I thought it was going to have the same intensity as the Metallica of old, but to me, it did not. The only Metallica albums I have & like are: Kill 'Em All, Master Of Puppets, and the black album. Now that's the hard core Metallica we know & love (in my opinion, anyways)! ;D

Actually, we were discussing this album at Motorhead forum ... most of people thought it was s**t and crap and for that reason I really took the pain to play / listen to it properly .... ;D
Here was my "verdict"
;D
Anyway, I myself also prefer old Metallica .... though to be entirely honest, I perhaps prefer Apocalyptica's cello-deconstruction even more ... I wonder whether they find courage to do something about St. Anger though. ;D
I will provide briefing from Prague concert / July 1 ! ;D
In fact, I know they play some of St. Anger stuff on their tour ... but I really do not know how they can do it ... those tunes feel a bit un-re-playable ! ;D

I came back from Slipknot / Metallica concert just an hour ago or so ... WHAT a f**kING GREAT GIG that was !!!!!
The "venue" TMobile Park is basically an abandoned industrial, dilapidating site : we were lucky it wasnt raining, though the afternoon did look like storm may be coming. But anyway, the site was packed and people didnt seem to mind.
Because of the football match CR - Greece we started earlier ... the Slipknot came to the scene at 6 PM, followed by Metallica at 7.30 .... the gig finished at 10 PM, against people s will, as it were. Anyway, big part of the concert took place at daylight. Which was good in a way ... I could see all of them as if they were standing right in front of me ... which they did in a way, lol ;D
I didnt know what to expect from SLIPKNOT:
Bloody hell ... I became interested in them the moment I saw the stage (btw. my location was in zone A / under the stage with fine view) ... there were 3 drum kits, first of all ... anyway 9 masked headbanging freaks stormed the stage for over one hour .... they got the whole place in uproar. I have to check their albums, for their sound was not the best and thus I got primarily the drum / bass beat, and then lots of f**k and bulls**t screams ... but to get the rest out of their music, I have to check their CDs in peace ... and sure I will. They do deserve that, LMAO. ;D
They should not do this to the elderly persons though :
There was hell of joint activities / exercises going on, like for instance f**king jump up (Edit : or was it jump the fuck up ... whatever it was, it wasnt meant for seniors ! ;D ) ... now, it basically means that all the venue lay down and jumps in the air on command (we did this at karate training so it wasnt entirely new to me, LOL)...
I do not count the headbanging ... though their was extreme !!! The audience was more moderate: I still have all my teeth in place, which I consider quite some acheievemt !!!!
There was also lots of finger exercise going on ... I can hardly type now to be honest ... Especially the middle fingers suffered ... and then also index and little fingers were overused during the concert ... Now these I managed for I had a proper practice when Pina and Paulo visited last year.
Mary, I was thinking of you a lot ... I think you would love them !
Btw. regardkess of their balck / death whatever metal, they were nice and friendly dudes !!!!
METALLICA ... there were some clusters of disorganized noise but in bearable amount. The concert KICKED ASS ... there was no cheap posing, no cheap gestures, just great music, energy and fun. It truly looked like even Metallica enjoyed themselves ... Their bassman is fantastic btw - Robert Trujillo - he looks like a dude spat out of jungle, but he fits in Metallica and he is excellent ... I enjoyed his bass solos.
The set list was roughly this (I took it from the metallica forum because I wouldnt remember the exact set otherwise !):
Blackened Fuel Harverster Of Sorrow Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Frantic I Dissapear No Leaf Clover St. Anger Sad But True Creeping Death Battery -------- Wherever I May Roam Nothing Else Matters Master of Puppets One Enter Sandman -------- Whiplash Seek And Destroy
I was astonished at how many people actually knew album St. Anger, could sing along (mind you : primarily non-English speaking audience !!!) and react to all the Metallicas requests.
Both concerts actually were highly interactive, people absolutely adored the music and reacted accordingly .... the noise from the audience was powerful ... the cooperation was enormous ...
I can actually serve as a living example. To sum it up : my legs are sore, my knees are sore (the f**king jump up is not exactly for my age group !), my fingers are sore, my arms are sore, my throat is sore (I can still speak though ... at least to myself), my hair is double its usual volume (you wouldnt believe what 4-hour intensive headbanging do to your hair-cut !!!), my cloathes went directly to washing machine for what was once black is now dust covered ....
Simply : there is nothing like a relaxed evening in the open air !
I may add some notes as soon as Iget some sleep !!!!
Go Metallica !!!!
Btw. Yeah, Czechs f**ked the football match ... but so what ! ;D
