So what was your first Tolkien read, and when ? Mine was LOTR when I was 13. I spent many classes completely ignoring teachers, whilst under my desk Frodo and Sam were crossing The Black Land. I almost cheered when Elessar was crowned

Well, I first read Tolkien / LOTR back in 1985 ... I was re-typing an incomplete Czech translation (plus during the process completing the missing parts, doing proof-reading and layout etc.) for a samizdat edition !LOTR was an "index" book (subversive ), you know, in those years. Anyway, it took me a full year of volunteer work, lol. */ Then couple of years later Hobbit was published, and then in the 90s most of Tolkien books were published in Czech Rep. of course. Now I have read the most of Tolkien (Unfinished Tales are still on my desk ), all in English, incl. his essays and work by his son Christopher. */ Btw. When I was seeing the film / FOTR first time, on leaving the cinema I just discovered that my knuckles of "typing fingers" were all in flame ! ... a kind of "body memory" i would say ... fairly interesting phenomenon, after all those years ! ;D
