I have just come from the cinema ... TTT hit our cinemas this week only, that is in mid-January. My first impression is - grand scenes and again breath-taking sceneries, major diversions from the books (such as Faramir being made almost into a clone of Boromir) ... I will definitely have to see it couple of more times for "definite judgement", lol. However I would love to read your impressions, pro / contra, fave scenes or characters ... anything. Obviously many threads can be opened on specific topics.

I agree, Jana. The movie looked spectacular but really strayed from the storyline. The whole point of Faramir's character was missed! And why were Frodo and Sam taken to Osgiliath? That made absolutely no sense. I understand some changes must be made for the film's sake; but I found this movie was not true to the spirit of the story. In the first movie some changes had been made but still made sense. I guess we will have to wait for the third and see what happens.

Well we may get the answers at RoTK ... but still some changes cannot be "reversed" ... When it comes to Faramir / Osgiliath ... If I remember it well Faramir went to Osgiliath and was defending it against Nazgul and was wounded there / he was brought to Minas Tirith almost dead from there ... so perhaps this they will keep for RoTK ... But anyway, to portray Faramir this way had no justification whatsover, not even for the film story line Also ... Saruman's relation to Sauron (and his motives) was different in the books as well ... Aragorn / Arwen ... well at least he PJ seemed to reflect the Annex of LOTR ... when it comes to Elrond's reaction in a way, he managed to tell the "untold" ... though then again he used the Elves contrary to the books. I must admit that out of all the characters I like Gandalf best ... he seems to be closest to the original.

Yay Mary, I saw it second time yesterday. ;D ... Well, the film is awesome, though the regret related to major shifts from the orignal lasts ... You are right, Treebeard and the Ents are almost as I pictured them ... and I must say it again. I utterly like Gandalf.
