We had the opportunity to meet Jimmy at a charitable function. Jimmy and his wife are trustees of a charitable organization that helps the disadvantaged children of Brazil. Paulo has been supporting that charity for almost 5 years now. There were between 100 and 200 people there. There was music and dancing and an auction. When I entered the room, I saw Jimmy right away. He was in the corner surrounded by the people at his table and he spoke to Adrian Smith (of Iron Maiden) for a long time. It was difficult to get to him so I just stood across from him at his table. Then he started speaking to Pat Cash the tennis player just before his wife made her opening speech. She is young and beautiful but I was surprised how natural and down-to-earth she looked. Her speech was very touching and when she thanked Jimmy at the end, she had tears in her eyes. Of course, this was not the appropriate time to speak to Jimmy so I waited until the speeches were over. Then he came round the table and walked right past me so I introduced myself and I mentioned David Coverdale. He smiled and told me to send his regards. I also congratulated him on the recognition he has received for his charity work (OBE, honorary citizen of Rio, etc). Then he moved to the other side of the room and joined his wife. A short while later, I made my way over to them and I introduced myself to his wife (Jimena) and congratulated her on her work. By this time, there were quite a few people “lined up” to speak to Jimmy, get his autograph and ask for photos. He was very nice about it all but I could tell he was a bit uncomfortable, probably because these things can get out of hand very fast and besides, this was a charity function, not a rock n roll meet and greet. So I waited for another appropriate time and then decided to make my way over to him again (I figured it’s now or never). So I approached him again and asked him very politely if I could get a photo (to show David) and he said yes. So Paulo took the photo and then I asked if I could take one of him and Paulo and he said yes also. He remembered that I was the one who mentioned David to him earlier on so he told me how much he liked working with David. Then he asked me some questions about myself and we chatted a bit more about stuff. By this time I am freaking out because Jimmy is talking to me and asking me questions!! My hands were shaking after that! What I like about Jimmy is that he looks you in the eye when he is speaking to you. I think he also appreciated the fact that I didn't bombard him with questions about his music and ask for tons of autographs for myself and my friends. Sometimes you get more when you don't ask for much!

Great story, fine shots, well done, Pina and Paulo !!!! I also checked the whole thread at Doug's boards ... you must have had wonderful time ! CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!! I myself am living quite dull life at the moment .... meeting tons of people, but all work related and many you would normally choose to avoid. BUT : Next year is the Year of Dog (Yes, I am Dog) ... and reliable resources say for Dogs it shall be the year to remember (in positive way, that is) ... if not, I will sue the bastards. ;D
