Before going on holidays I went to watch "Mona Lisa Smile", in some way reminds me to " Dead Poets Society" (what is one of my favourites movie at all times!!!) maybe is just because it happens in a school... anyhow... I like it! talks about how hard was to be a women at 50's, and a beginning of change leading by the hand of an Art History Teacher, who just thinks that being a woman doesn't mean "to cook, to wash, do the ironing and be happy because I have a new fridge" I meant "women feel fulfilled just getting married" so she tried to make them see 'over the marriage' and 'try to live their own lives'... of course it was a time that we didn't live and don't live but, maybe thanks to women like that teacher we are what we are today...

Mystic River Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne.... excellent. I hope Sean or Tim get an Academy Award for this! Well, it looks like I was spot on! Tim Robbins won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and Sean Penn won for Best Actor. They both deserved it!

Mambo Italiano... a Canadian film, shot in Montreal! And my high school is featured prominently in it! It's an amusing movie! Mambo Italiano Premise/Synopsis: Maria and Gino (GINETTE RENO and PAUL SORVINO), emigrated from Italy to Montreal in the 50’s and married after their arrival in “the new world”, a world they still haven’t quite gotten used to. Their world is shattered when their son, Angelo (LUKE KIRBY), decides to get a place of his own. “What is so wrong with living with your parents until you get married?” they ask. They are relieved however, when Angelo’s childhood buddy, Nino (PETER MILLER), decides to move in with their son. After all, Nino is an old family friend and he’s a respectable cop. Their relief is short lived, as they find out that Nino and Angelo are much more than mere roommates—they’re (gasp) lovers! All hell breaks loose (Italian-style, of course!) Horror is followed by a general outcry, disbelief is followed by indignation, the battlefield is cleared, and “tutta la famiglia” goes to war!
(http://www.thezreview.co.uk/comingsoon/m/mamboitaliano.htm) This light hearted comedy is set amidst the Quebecois Italian community, where la famiglia is of paramount importance, and where the only way the offspring get to leave home is by marrying or dying. Twentysomething Angelo upscuttles the accepted order of things, firstly by finding a place of his own, and then by trying his luck as a TV writer. And if that weren’t bad enough, a reacquaintance with his childhood chum Nino (Peter Miller) leads to cohabitation, and its not long before Angelo feels the urge to out himself and his lover. Their families react, predictably, with melodramatics of the ‘where did it all go wrong’ variety, before they launch into action to try and remedy the situation. This good-hearted film is generous and optimistic in tone, and presents a view of the world in which gay men are generally sensitive and slightly flamboyant; and where family love and loyalties will win out in the end. If you want radical progressive politics, then Mambo Italiano probably isn’t for you. But if you liked Kiss Me Guido (or My Big Fat Greek Wedding!), then it might well be.
Directed by: Emile Gaudreault Written by: Emile Gaudreault, Steve Galluccio With: Ginette Reno, Luke Kirby, Mary Walsh, Paul Sorvino Country: Canada Year of Production: 2003 Running Time: 88 minutes Distributor: Icon Film Distribution(http://www.lff.org.uk/films_details.php?FilmID=168) Here's the official site: www.mamboitalianomovie.com/

I went to see Big Fish a few weeks ago, mainly because I adore Ewan McGregor. I wouldn't say it was a flop but you're better off waiting for the video. Plot Summary for Big Fish The story revolves around a dying father and his son, who is trying to learn more about his dad by piecing together the stories he has gathered over the years. The son winds up re-creating his father's elusive life in a series of legends and myths inspired by the few facts he knows. Through these tales, the son begins to understand his father's great feats and his great failings.Photos here: imdb.com/title/tt0319061/photogalleryHere's the official site... quite nicely done actually: www.sonypictures.com/movies/bigfish/
