Right. My CD / DVD copy arrived on Friday from amazon.de (no sign yet of this album at Prague music shops !!!), I gave it random listening at first, mostly while on the public transportation and found it OK, interesting ... but wasnt quite sure whether I would rate as the "so far" best or close to it.
Today I gave it 5 rounds ... or perhaps more. I had it on in the morning while again on the way to my office, then again when leaving, then again and again ... In the late evening I stopped for coffee at a small by-road country pub at some pond, sat on a bench having no one around to disturb me safe for peacocks (actually, those little bastards kept shrieking as if being peeled off in vivo ... ) ... and listened and listened.
I absolutely LOVE the album ... the more often I play it the more it gets under my skin, as it were. Bloody hell, on top of those great tunes, the album is extremely well balanced and the sound is near to perfect.
I hope the MH take the pain and rehears at least some of the stuff for concerts this year !!!! This thing should be played live !
As for the individual songs :
The Whorehouse Blues came as a surprise .... for it is simply an alternative thing to "Sure 'Nuff 'N Yes I Do" / Capt. Beefheart !!! Lem's version is differently tuned and slower. But anyway: Why not !
Btw. that Sure 'Nuff 'N Yes I Do is from Safe as Milk ... theopener and Beefheart's lyrics go like this :
Well I was born in the desert came on up from New Orleans
Came up on a tornado sunlight in the sky
I went around all day with the moon sticking in my eye
Hey hey hey all you young girls wherever you're at
I got a brand new Cadillac I got a Ferrari too
Sure 'nuff baby sure 'nuff 'n yes I do
Got the time to teach ya' now, bet you'll learn some too
Got the time to teach ya' now, bet you'll learn some too
Sure 'nuff baby sure 'nuff 'n yes I do
Hey hey hey all you young girls whatever you do
Hey hey hey all you young girls whatever you do
Well come on by and see me I'll make it worth it to you
.....with me and I'll ..with me and you
Sleep with me and I'll sleep with me and you
Stick with me and I'll stick with me and you
;D
As for the other songs ... I love Fight, Terminal Show, Killers ....
Cant wait to see them live .... and I hope nothing will cross my plans !
