Rock Cafe Prague : 10 March, 2007
Sorry for this rather disorganized report ... The gig was on Saturday night, I came home at 1 am and worked on photos till 5 am ... the noise in my ears was terrible and I couldnt sleep anyway ... then I had some pause, then worked on the setlist ... you already know how pathetic with recollecting setlist I am ... and only tonight I put together a sort of mini report ... So here it is, repasted from my myspace blog @ www.myspace.com/troops_of_tomorrow
------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Setlist is always the trickiest part of it, especially if you are preoccupied with other things, such as lady constantly falling on and against you since the poor bugger was unable to jump in some coordinated manner ... anyway, the PRAGUE set-list was very near to this ...
Lost / Intro, Dark Wood of Error; Refuse/Resist, Convicted in Life; City of Dis; False; Fighting On; Ostia, Corrupted (?), Propaganda (?), Territory, Arise, Beneath The Remains, Roots, Attitude, Troops of Doom, Orgasmatron, ... Slayer riffs / Raining Blood and something that sounded a bit Dead Kennedish.
I will keep eye on somebody who has a better memory than myself.
Updates to follow !
EDIT 2: This I call cooperation. The Polish friends always seem to be the best when it comes to putting setlists together ... so with the aid of dziekuje.polska the setlist was about this (not necessarily in this order):
Lost / Intro
Dark Wood of Error
Refuse/Resist
Convicted in Life
City of Dis
False
Ostia
Corrupted
Territory
Arise
Beneath The Remains
Roots
Attitude
Troops of Doom
Orgasmatron
Slayer riffs / Raining Blood and something that sounded a bit Dead Kennedish
Boycott
Activist
Slave New World
Bullet The Blue Sky
Kaiowas
EDIT 3:
Lost / Intro; Dark Wood of Error; Refuse/Resist; Convicted in Life; (City of Dis), False; Ostia; Corrupted; Territory; Arise;
Beneath The Remains; Roots; Attitude; Troops of Doom; Orgasmatron; Slayer riffs / Raining Blood and something that sounded a bit Dead Kennedish; (Boycott; Activist; Slave New World; Bullet The Blue Sky; Kaiowas ?); Dead Embryonic Cells; Desperate Cry...

MINI REPORT
Now when it comes to the overall impression, what shall I add ? The gig was superb - energetic, dynamic, firy, simply really nice riot . The Rock Cafe www.rockcafe.cz/ actully added to the overall atmospehere. It is a tiny place right in the centre of Prague that after a recent "reconstruction" holds some 600 people if packed. And I can assure you, itwas packed ! Nice treat was the new air-conditioning, even right under the stage (to the right-hand corner though) it was possible to breathe. Also, after the reconstruction the venue moved from the lowered ground-floor to the underground which made it possible for Rock Cafe to hold late-night gigs. So the whole thing ended shortly before midnight ... early enough to get the last metro / u-train.
The South African Forefer Will Burn (myspace: www.myspace.com/foreverwillburn ; band web site: www.foreverwillburn.com/) played stuff apparently from their debut album, which I silly missed at the merchandise stand ... and at points, the singer reminded me of my friends Zombiegasm - by far more organized though ... Anyway, I entirely enjoy both Sepultura and Soulfly and the way they "handle" the issue of selecting support bands. Hats off ... rest assure if you go to Sep / Soulfly gig, the support bands will always be a real treat !!!
It was the case of FWB as well as BETZEFER (myspace: www.myspace.com/betzefer , band site: www.betzefer.com ) whom I first saw during Soulfly tour in 2005 (Germany) and then at With Full Force 2005. They played stuff from their album and apparently some newer stuff too ... but dont ask me about the actual setlist. I am simply pathetic in this.
When it comes to SEPULTURA - I never saw them at such a tiny place, so it was a real treat and bonus. The sound was bearable even when right next to the PA (well, my ears stopped ringing in the afternoon next day, but it was still a good result - way better than when seeing them with Motorhead in Dresden back in 2004 ... the ear pain left in 3 weeks only. triple echo disappeared after several days), crystal clear ... only the madly jumping lady right in front of me, constantly falling back right onto myself for about one full hour was a bit annoying - but after an hour or so she moved elsewhere to my relief . Normal riots I can deal with, but these young ladies who jump in very dis-organised way while having difficulties to maintain any balance or stand on their own feet, moving their hands in very unpredictable directions ... they are nightmare !
Back to Sepultura, the setlist is above, the performance was great and the boys apparently enjoyed the mad crowd below, there was even some stage diving and stuff, which this time I failed to "record", as it was usually very dark to take decent shots. New drummer - hats off !!! My first time seeing him, btw. You know the feeling of some "envy" when you see people who apparently fail to age ? ... well that is the case of Andreas, Paulo ... I dont list Derrick, because he is the "youngest" of the three anyway. But hell, the guys keep sounding (and OK - looking too  ) terrific. The energy just poured in all the directions. Also, Andreas seemed to be in especially playful mood this time ... flirting with people doing some Slayer riffs (Raining Blood), something that reminded me of metallized Dead Kennedys (California uber Alles) - but I may have been mistaken in this ... and several other bits. Great stuff.
Sure enough, Masters of Rock are on my to-do-list for this summer ... I really hope they will make it to other fests too ... e.g. Germany. What else, oh yes, cant wait to hear Andreas' solo album !
